Richard Wayne “Rick” Donegan, 73, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m.
Rick was born on June 15, 1952, at Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, to Tony and Joyce Donegan, who were overjoyed to welcome their son into the world. He was raised in Berkley, Michigan alongside his three brothers, Randy, Keith, and Kraig. Rick graduated from Berkley High School, where he enjoyed playing football and hockey—sports that sparked a lifelong love of athletics.
A proud Detroit sports fan, Rick faithfully cheered on the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions throughout his life. He also became an avid NASCAR enthusiast and loved attending races whenever he could. Rick found joy in landscaping, gardening, and taking great pride in caring for his yard. He loved exploring new places through scenic drives and road trips, and he dedicated many years providing for his family as a truck driver. In later years, Rick fulfilled a dream of purchasing a boat, creating treasured memories with family while enjoying time on the water.
Above all else, Rick deeply loved his family. Some of his most cherished memories were made spending summers at the family cottage on Higgins Lake in Michigan, along with time shared on Lake George and the St. Johns River in Florida. No matter where life took him, what made those moments special was simply being surrounded by the people he loved most.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his brothers, Randy (Kathy), Keith (Joann), and Kraig; his children, Kristine, Richard (Lauren), and Holly (Frank); his grandchildren, Brittney (Alex), Caroline, Lindsey, and Abby; and his great-grandchildren, Maci and Mia.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Scott and Terena (Don); as well as his step-grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica, Ian, Olivia, Kaylee, Joe, and Reanna.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry, and his stepson, Sean.
Rick will be remembered for his love of family, his adventurous spirit, his loyalty to those he loved, and the many memories he created with family and friends throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
